In the wake of the epochal changes that occur throughout the publishing industry, from 2015 the magazine "XY dimensions of design" and the series "The books of XY" will also be published digitally.
The potential of new electronic means of divulgation make today possible to extend to a broad range of interests the issues gravitating around the representation and the image: the original editorial project is transformed into a broad and constantly growing cultural plan.
The Università degli Studi di Trento as a publisher aims to select and share the academic scientific results of the research and teaching activities carried out by the institution. The brand name was born in 1992, but the first publishing project goes back to 1983 with the series “Quaderni del Dipartimento di Sociologia e Ricerca Sociale”. At the core of the administrative and scientific publishing activities are the University Departments (formerly Faculties), particularly in the Humanities and Law fields, together with the University Research Centers and the Centro Studi Martino Martini.
Since 2004 the Publisher has embraced Open Access policies, which were formally adopted by the Academic Senate in 2014. Since then, all the leading series have gradually moved towards the new dissemination model, enjoying the considerable scientific and economic advantages it brings, such as increased visibility, enhanced usage and higher impact.
The first books of Officina editions appeared in 1964 for initiative of Aldo Quinti.
In those years the leading Italian publishers reserved a sporadic attention to the study of architecture and this was just the field of Quinti's publishing house called Officina: a research laboratory characterized by friendly and collaborative relations with the Authors, a production always channeled through specific series, from a set simple and non-dispersive guide-lines.The publishing house soon began to take care not only of architecture but also of sociology, ethnology, linguistics, art, theater and cinema.
Since 2002, with a different director, Officina Edizioni pursues the original objectives with new strategies: keeping the existing collaborations, strengthening the relationship with the directors of series, launching new publications and collaborating with universities.
Today OE participates proactively to national and international debate on architecture and its multiple intersections with the worlds of humanistic and scientific knowledge, with the aim of reaching a wider audience of scholars.
