The exhibition, curated by Orsina Simona Pierini and Alessandro Isastia, former authors of the volume Case Milanesi 1923-1973 (Ulrico Hoepli Editore) and sponsored by FAI-Fondo Ambiente Italiano, is an opportunity to discover a selection of the most significant Milanese houses of modernity.

Starting from the transformations of Milan, the first place where modernity is realized in Italy in continuity with tradition, the exhibition is enriched, with the advice of Alberto Saibene, with testimonies from cultural, literary, artistic and cinematic context that have dialogued with the architecture and the pieces of the city that changed the face of Milan between the twenties and the seventies, affirming the golden age of bourgeois civilization. This search for representativeness is made explicit by a scenographic installation in the Galleria degli Armadi, curated by Alessandro Isastia. The insights on the interior allow you to ‘look in and close’ the residences, while in the vestibule leading to the exhibition space of the attic, a large map of Milan, extended on the floor and on which it will be possible to walk, allows visitors to identify the houses in the topography of the city and to ‘move’ from one house to another by designing itineraries and virtual routes. A section is also dedicated to the architects who designed the houses: Piero Portaluppi, Giovanni Muzio, Luigi Caccia Dominioni, Vico Magistretti, Aldo Andreani, Gio Ponti, Ignazio Gardella, Figini and Pollini, just to give some examples.

Lastly, the heart of the exhibition: the long wall where the 23 selected houses are presented. The many different facades that formed the new image of the city will be placed side by side on the same scale. In front of this large exhibition wall, the photographic description of the houses, their plants and their materials, which allow the visitor to ‘touch’ the skin of the buildings. The exhibition was designed by Giussaniarch and Studio FM designed the graphics.

On the occasion of the fortieth anniversary of the first conference held in Vancouver in Canada in 1978, the 18th International Geometry and Graphics Conference will take place this year, from 3 to 7 August 2018 at the Politecnico di Milano. The International Conference on Geometry and Graphics is a biennial event with a traveling venue, organized under the auspices of the ISGG, the International Society for Geometry and Graphics. As also the logo of the conference tries to summarize, this year the ICGG. will be dedicated to the figures of Leonardo Da Vinci and Giulio Natta. The first will be celebrated as the genius among the greatest in history able to effectively show the enormous power that Geometry and Graphics have had and still play in investigating the relationship between art and science. The second, professor at the Polytechnic of Milan and Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1963 together with Karl Ziegler, will be remembered as a supporter of the profuse and beauty of Geometry and Graphics in science and technology, especially in relation to the invisible scale of the molecular world. The main themes of the conference will range from research on disciplinary foundations to geometric applications in the real world, especially in the technological field; there will also be in-depth analysis of the didactic aspects of geometry, engineering graphics and industrial design. The conference, therefore, is a meeting place for the presentation and discussion of research and study experiences carried out both in the academic and in the industrial and professional fields.

The International Society for Geometry and Graphics is an academic association of scholars from all over the world who deal with geometry and graphics related to architecture, engineering and design. The main areas of interest are theoretical research, from foundations to masters, geometric applications in the real world, from scientific to technological fields, including all aspects related to training and teaching of geometry both in engineering graphics and industrial design. The association's further goal is to become a real and virtual place of exchange and debate for all those involved in geometric and graphic disciplines: for this purpose, ISGG organizes biennial international conferences with itinerant seats and high-profile scientific committee.

Before the alphabet

The exhibition, promoted by the Giancarlo Ligabue Foundation, is held in Venice at Palazzo Loredan, one of the locations of the Istituto Veneto di Scienze Lettere e Arti, from January 20 to April 25, 2017 and is curated by Professor Frederick Mario Fales University of Udine, one of the most famous Assyrian and Ancient Near East scholars.

Through a careful educational tour, which also uses interactive multimedia and multisensory advices of considerable charm, the visitor is brought back to nearly 6000 years ago, in the Land of the Two Rivers, in a kaleidoscope of signs, symbols, engravings but also of images and visual stories testifying the origin and the spread of cuneiform writing and, at the same time, the social, economic and religious context of ancient Mesopotamia.
Sponsored by local institutions and major commercial sponsor of the national and international level, the exhibition makes it easily accessible the historic and cultural heritage of a land - that of Sumerians, Akkadians, Assyrians and Babylonians today deeply raped by war and terrorism but universally recognized as the cradle of civilization - through the exhibition for the first time of more than 200 exhibits of Ligabue Collection flanked by precious loans from the archaeological Museum of Venice and the Museum of Antiquities in Turin. These are mainly cuneiform tablets and numerous cylinder seals or mold but also sculptures, plates, weapons, carvings, vases and inlays.

Open from 10 am to 5 pm from Tuesday to Sunday, € 5 the cost of the ticket.

- la ricerca nel campo della rappresentazione architettonica intesa come ricerca specifica in quanto svolta all’interno dell’ambito disciplinare del disegno per la quale si incoraggia a presentare esperienze innovative soprattutto in relazione ai nuovi programmi di insegnamento;
